Molecular Nanotechnology and Literature :: Cause Effect Science Technology Essays

Sub-atomic Nanotechnology and Literature Envision a reality where you could have anything you needed. Gold? Here it is. Another vehicle? Voila. Jewels? Goodness, here, it would be ideal if you have a portion of mine, there's additional in the back. Obviously, this isn't our reality at the present, however it may be the universe of things to come. Sub-atomic nanotechnology will have the option to give whatever one needs or needs, for nothing or for a tiny measure of installment. Be that as it may, it won't just influence business and material products. It will influence medication, war and weaponry, law authorization, reconnaissance, diversion, removal of waste and trash, and even writing. Writing will maybe be influenced in a more noteworthy manner than one may might suspect. Yet, before I get to that, let me clarify what, precisely, sub-atomic nanotechnology is. In l 959, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman set forth a thought. His thought was that anything could be produced using the ground up, out of individual iotas or particles. This is nanotechnology: the working or control of individual iotas or atoms, each in turn, and situating and arranging them unequivocally and over and again, until enough gathered to shape a huge scope, usable substance. Feynman didn't name it and diagram the science, be that as it may. This was finished by K. Eric Drexler. In the 1970's, the point at which he was an understudy at MIT, Drexler thought of a thought of nanotechnology, and delineated its potential employments. He believed that on the off chance that one had the capacity or innovation to work with singular particles and atoms, at that point one could make a container that would change normal materials into hamburger. It sounds peculiar, yet that was the way to go. The thought was that you could open the entryway, hurl in some stuff, work th e controls, and two hours or so later: out moves some new meat. It sounds odd in light of the fact that we are encouraged that meat originates from dairy cattle, not from a crate of grass clippings and old tennis shoe insoles. Be that as it may, it truly bodes well. Dairy cattle utilize just a couple of materials when making meat: grass, air, water, daylight. At the point when they are processing that garbage, they are simply adjusting the atoms to frame trademark examples of meat. The main genuine distinction between the techniques for hamburger creation of dairy animals and Drexler's container is that bovines make meat utilizing catalysts and fluids, where receptive specialists arbitrarily impact, and Drexler's crate makes hamburger precisely. Drexler states that the particles and iotas would need to be controlled by small, minuscule robots, normally alluded to as constructing agents.

The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights - 1728 Words

Culture is an important part of society; culture is what binds people together and ties generations from one to the next. It is culture that separates one group of people from another, making them unique from each other and adding variety and beauty to the world. Many nations and peoples cite their traditions and culture as the bedrock of their society. They refer to traditional values as the moral fiber which holds their societies together. Culture is a good thing, when allowed to progress, but can be dangerous if followed blindly. Culture can oppress minorities and those who don’t fit the traditional mold of a people. Culture can impede progress and leave women, minorities and other sub-sects of a society without the basic human rights†¦show more content†¦Though the UDHR has been ratified by every country in the world, there are many nations that have violated the very Articles that they consented to be bound by. There are many examples of such violations in the si xty-eight years since the initial acceptance of the UDHR by the UN General Assembly. Many of these violations are committed under the auspices of cultural, moral or ethical relativism. Ethical Relativism is the idea that one’s morals are only bound or defined by the norms of the culture in which they are a part. For example, if a practice that is accepted by the local culture, or is a part of the tradition or fundamental values of that culture, then the practice is considered moral (Velasquez, 1992). Some example of such accepted practices are female genital mutilation, public stoning and dismemberment of those who break certain laws. Most of these accepted practices take place in less developed nations, such as Iraq, Algeria, and some sub-Saharan nations in Africa. The irony is that each of these nations has ratified the UDHR, yet they do not prohibit such acts against its citizens. There is an ongoing argument with regard to the Universal Declaration and whether it infringes on the sovereignty of individual nations. The idea is that an outside entity should not be able to redefine what is morally right for a particular culture.

Analyzing the Buyer Decision Process by interviewing two consumers Free Essays

The buyer decision process is like an imaginary process that the consumer undergoes in buying a product or a service. This process happens before, during, and after purchasing the product or a service. The concept of this process says that a consumer undergoes different ‘stages’ whenever he is involved in a transaction of a product or service. We will write a custom essay sample on Analyzing the Buyer Decision Process by interviewing two consumers or any similar topic only for you Order Now These stages include Need recognition, Information search, Evaluation of Alternatives, Purchase decision, and Post purchase behavior (Kotler, 1999). Recognition of the consumer’s needs can be caused by internal or external stimuli. Examples of internal stimuli are a person’s needs such as thirst and hunger. External stimuli, on the other hand, consist of advertisements, slogans, magazines etc (Kotler, 1999). In the case of Person A, she saw the ice cream in a poster and that’s what made her buy the particular ice cream because it looks delicious. Person B, on the other hand, bought the ice cream simply because she felt the need of cold food because of the climate. In that situation, Person A’s need of ice cream is caused by an external stimulus while Person B’s need is caused by an internal stimulus. By analyzing the answers of the interviewees, we can say that climate and advertising are one of the factors that influenced the buying behavior of the two consumers. Information about the product can be made known by the consumer through personal, commercial, public, and experiential sources. Personal sources can be family, friends, and close relatives. These are actually the most effective source of information. An example of a commercial source is a salesperson. Usually, most of the information about the product can be made known through this kind of source. Public sources include mass media. Experiential sources exist when the consumer already tried the product, or experienced it (Kotler, 1999). When asked about their source of information about the ice cream, Person A said that she saw the ice cream in a poster while Person B answered that a friend told her that the particular ice cream tastes good. Person A’s source is belongs to Public sources while Person B’s source belongs to Personal sources. When asked about the importance of their source, Person A said that her source is not really that important. On the other hand, Person B said that her source is important (her source is her friend) because the ice cream was recommended by her friend and that she trusts her friend. The next step in the process is the evaluation of alternatives. In this stage, the consumer evaluates the features of the products and many other factors (Kotler, 1999). Person A said that before buying the ice cream, he considered the price, the flavor, and if she will be satisfied after consuming the product. The same thing goes for person B. She also said that she considered the product price, flavor, and her satisfaction afterwards. When asked how they evaluated these alternatives, they said that they just look at the product and the information that comes with it. In this case, the buying behavior of the consumers is influenced by the product’s features. The purchase intention is the consumer’s want to purchase her most preferred kind of the product (Kotler, 1999). Person B said that in deciding what flavor of ice cream to buy, she just looks at the flavors and recalls about her experiences about these flavors. Person A answered just the same as Person B. Person A said that she chose vanilla because it is her personal favorite. Person B said that she is in the mood for chocolate that is why she chose that particular flavor. In this case, factors that influenced the buying behavior of the consumers are experience, personal choice, and mood/emotion. Post purchase behavior is like the evaluation of the consumer after purchasing the product or a service (Kotler, 1999). In the end, the consumer can be satisfied or dissatisfied. When asked about describing their level of satisfaction, both interviewees answered that their level of satisfaction is high and that they were both satisfied. Why? Because the outcome of their purchase met their expectations. Many other factors might have affected the buying behavior of the two consumers. Demographics might have also contributed on the purchase of the ice cream. Since there are 3 ice cream parlors in located near the consumers’ place, demographics might also have affected their purchase. If there are no ice cream parlors in the place, they may not be able to purchase ice cream. Reference: Kotler, P. (1999). Principles of marketing. Significant Events About The Colony of New York

Significant Events About The Colony of New York New York was originally part of New Netherland. This Dutch colony had been founded after the area had first been explored by Henry Hudson in 1609. He had sailed up the Hudson River. By the following year, the Dutch began trading with the Native Americans. They created Fort Orange located at present-day Albany, New York, to take increase profit and take the greater part of this lucrative fur trade with the Iroquois Indians. Between 1611 and 1614, further explorations were explored and mapped in the New World. The resulting map was given the name, New Netherland. New Amsterdam was formed from the core of Manhattan which had been purchased from the Native Americans by Peter Minuit for trinkets. This soon became the capital of New Netherland. Motivation for Founding In August 1664, New Amsterdam was threatened with the arrival of four English warships. Their goal was to take over the town. However, New Amsterdam was known for its heterogeneous population and many of its inhabitants were not even Dutch. The English made them a promise to let them keep their commercial rights. Due to this, they surrendered the town without a fight. The English government renamed the town, New York, after James, Duke of York. He was given control of the colony of New Netherland. New York and the American Revolution New York did not sign the Declaration of Independence until July 9, 1776, as they were waiting for approval from their colony. However, when George Washington read the Declaration of Independence in front of City Hall in New York City where he was leading his troops, a riot occurred. The Statue of George III was ripped down. However, the British took control of the city with the arrival of General Howe and his forces in September 1776. New York was one of the three colonies that saw the most fighting during the War. In fact, the Battles of Fort Ticonderoga on May 10, 1775, and the Battle of Saratoga on October 7, 1777, were both fought in New York. New York served as the major base of operations for the British for most of the war. The war finally ended in 1782 after the British defeat at the Battle of Yorktown. However, the war did not end formally until the signing of the Treaty of Paris on September 3, 1783. The British troops finally left New York City on November 25, 1783. Defending the Budget Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Defending the Budget - Essay Example As at September 2011, the department had 88 firefighters, 42 officers, 6 engines and 2 ladders (Fire-Rescue 2012). Recently, there has been a study stating that the department is inactive and slow at responding to emergency calls. This claim has driven the city manager to propose a reduction of the department’s budget due to the cited inactivity in this fire department. As the fire chief in this institution, I would like to express that this assumption is not true. This is because my department has carried out all its responsibilities and emergency responses with required efficiency. The department has not only attended to many calls in the time of my service to the station but also successfully managed to put out major fires and rescue many people, property and pets from burning houses and buildings. However, contrary to the viewpoint of the city manager, the Medford fire department does not involve itself with fire emergencies only. There are several other activities that we are actively involved in every other day. They include, examining buildings for hazards, evaluating new constructions, setting up car seats for children, offering fire prevention services, heavy rescue, and providing fire station tours. For instance, in the month of March this year, there were regular inspections carried out by officials of the department on fire and life safety division (FLSD) where 92 hazards were noted and immediate action was taken to rectify the situation (Fire-Rescue, 2012). The current amount in the budget is sufficient to cater for the emergency responses and other off-emergency activities the department is responsible for. Currently, my department receives and attends an average of two incidents every week. We have always ensured that the emergencies are attended to in the shortest time possible as saving lives is our first priority. These responses also include fire scares where our department always solves the crisis restoring confidence in people. The f irefighters are very co operative and will attend to their duties at any time of day or night. Their motivation and enthusiasm in their work has helped save lives. This kind of vigilance has been met with proper remuneration extended to all employees and supervisors of the department. In certain occasions, budgeted monetary rewards are also extended to firefighters who have performed best in their obligations. Therefore, in order to uphold the same levels of salaries and rewards, it is important to maintain the budget. Otherwise, a cut may demotivate the employees leading to underperformance. This would put many individuals and buildings in the danger of being consumed by fire. To successfully fight fire, collaboration between the general public and the fire fighters is essential. This collaboration can only be enabled by an effective communication process. The communication devices used by Medford fire fighters are up to date and are effective in accomplishing the objective of pass ing on information to its users. This has helped avoid many deaths that might have occurred during fire incidents. The firefighting team is always ready to take the emergency calls and attend to the fire rescues at any time of day. The maintenance of this efficient communication lines requires funds. Therefore,

Business law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 10

Business law - Essay Example In this regard following issues can be framed: In legal sense Contract is defined as â€Å"an agreement enforceable at Law† where as every promise and every set of promises, forming the consideration for each other, is an agreement. And each promise is a combination of an offer by one person and acceptance of that offer by an other person. 2(The Indian Contract Act, 1872) The basic components of this agreement are: In case of deal with Slump Ltd through Mr. Boom offer was made by Mr. Boom to purchase the cars for use on basis of advice rendered by Mr. Smooth; a salesperson employed by Big Deal Ltd. Mr. Smooth accepted the offer by acting in accordance with the offer for price tag which forms the consideration of 20,000/- each. Similar is the case of deal with Ms. Market. Hence, in both case there were legal contracts between the parties on the ground that all the three components i.e. offer, acceptance and lawful consideration were present. A contract of sale of goods is a specific type of contract. I contract maybe a legal one but still not constitute a sale of goods contract. In order to do so a contract should correspond to Sec: 2(1) of the Sale of Goods Act 19793, which provides that, â€Å"A contract whereby the seller transfers or agree to transfer ownership in goods to the buyer in return for a money consideration called the price.† Both the deals under discussion in the current debate qualify to be a contract of sales of goods where ownerships was transferred to buyers for a price tog of 20,000/- and 5,000/- in case of slump Ltd and Mr. Market respectively. Cars purchased were legal consideration in this regard. Certain professions carry certain implied conditions attached to their products and services. However, law describes the implied conditions in general too. Section 14 of Sales of Goods Act, 1971, speaks about these implied conditions. This section defines that goods to be sold shall be of

Figure 2.2 Overview of sealed quench furnace The sealed quench furnace has two chambers separated by refractory lined door which can be opened to allow hot charge to be transferred from heat chamber to cool chamber. In order to determine the systems requirements, the parameter using to control the furnace are Temperature, Pressure, Oxygen level, Flow switch and raw materials level. The temperature of the furnace is monitored by thermistor. The first process is in heat chamber is the heating of materials and is controlled by atmosphere, LPG, Indo gas, Nitrogen. Nitrogen is used for safety purpose because use of LPG and indo gas. Indo gas and nitrogen forms carbon potential manage the raw materials used in the furnace. The control valves pressure and oxygen is monitored by sensors. Temperature sensor is used for the actual process held in the furnace. The second process is in the Quench chamber is cooling of materials. In this controlling valves are used for controlling of the furnace. The flow switch is used for level maintenance. In this Labview control system, it has monitor and control of the furnace, with inputs of temperature, oxygen, Endo gas, and pressure. The temperature of the furnace exists the predefined limit it automatically increases the air level and reduces the gas enter in the furnace. Being a Nutritionist Essay

What is a nutritionist? A nutritionist is an health practitioner who works with a person’s diet to help heal or prevent disease. A doctor who calls himself/herself a nutritionist may have several different levels of education. They could have a degree in Nutrition or Dietetics from a University or certification in Nutrition Education or Counseling from a professional training school. Most people who have a degree in Dietetics in the United States will be registered with the national board and will call themselves Registered Dieticians or R.D.’s. These professionals have a slightly different perspective from the more holistically oriented Certified Nutrition Educators or Counselors also called C.N.E’s and C.N.C’s. While a nutritionist may have a vast scientific knowledge of the body and nutrition, they are often quite strict in their approach to patient care. Their focus is entirely within the focus of western medicine, meaning they have guidelines when it comes to dietary recommendations. They often work directly with medical doctors or in hospitals. In many ways, they are trained to treat the disease rather than the person as a whole. They might help a patient by helping them make a diet plan, or even suggesting them to other kinds of doctors that can help the patient recover or prevent an illness. For example, the reason the patient is not getting many nutrients since he/she doesn’t eat much food could be because of stress or not getting enough sleep; therefore, the nutritionist would send the patient to the sleep holistic doctor, or a stress management program or professional. One important fact that makes nutritionist so important is that they link the patient with many other doctors that could help them. They help make the connection between proper diet and a good holistic health. They can make the link on how eating the right food can either prevent a disease or even treat a disease. They are the experts in the area of food, nutrients, and vitamins. It is imperative that once a patient faces a problem with diet, he/she must visit a nutritionist. Since most health problems are linked to some kind of factor, nutritionists are connected to other kinds of doctors, such as social coordinators and sleep holistic doctors. Nutritionists are important in the field of disease treatment and prevention. Visiting a nutritionist can increase better knowledge on one’s diet and what they should eat more. Finally, they are the kind of doctors that can change one’s life.

Racist Speech

As a society, we need to realize that with honesty, you have a certain responsibility and walk a fine line between offending people and possibly making racial statements. Therefore, the main difference between my interpretation and the conventional one is my focus is on unintentional vs.. Intentional racist speech. The Balance between racist speech and expression in a college environment can be difficult to decipher; students are encouraged and should express themselves while n campus, this embraces their creativity, passion, talent and allows them to feel Like they're in a safe environment. However, there is a fine line between expressing themselves in an offensive way vs.. An effective way. The article written by Derek Book titled Protecting Freedom of Expression on the Campus focuses on a situation that occurred at Harvard, stating that â€Å"Two students hung Confederate flags in public view, upsetting students who equate the Confederacy with slavery'. According to my deflation t his Is clearly racist speech and started quite the commotion among the Taft at the prestigious university and caused some other colleges to take racist speech too new level. In Books article his statement of colleges â€Å"some have enacted codes to protect their communities from forms of speech that are deemed to be insensitive to the feelings of other groups. † Even the words â€Å"Insensitive to the feelings of other groups† degrades the first amendment and could lead to racism. While some colleges chose not to enforce any restrictions, others varied In their approach and seventy of retribution. There are many ways to deal with this issue but the fact that each institution deals with it differently proves that racist speech continues and the answer remains elusive. Even though communities have the right to regulate speech they must do so very cautiously. If they do, they must apply the rules and limitations across the board and cannot enforce selectively to prohibit c ertain kind of messages and allow others that they think are acceptable; which can again be portrayed as racist speech. He goes on to say that â€Å"I am sure that the vast majority of Harvard students believe hat hanging a Confederate flag in public view-or displaying a swastika in response-is insensitive and unwise because any satisfaction It gives to the students who display these symbols Is far outweighed by the discomfort It causes to many others. † When freedom of speech does not guarantee that the choice made by the student's will be the same choice Book would make. Right after that quote, Book states â€Å"l share this view', but we forget that the flag symbolizing slavery was not the intent but rather an unintentional form of racist speech. If you are an agency of the government including public universities the free speech clause in the first amendment will be upheld even if the event offends the feelings or believes of that community. Book says in his article  "l have difficulty understanding why a university such as Harvard should have less free speech than the surrounding society- or than a public university'. In response Harvard is a private university which means it is not obligated to all government rules and regulation, the problem comes from the ambiguous limitations of the first amendment.Who's to say what is offensive or not in the eyes of the law, there are no tangible words for racist speech which results in many different interpretations. Colleges are not the only institutions with this problem; racist speech can be found everywhere. Even President Barack Obama is trying to end discrimination regarding the military and people who have different sexual preferences. The controversial â€Å"don't ask, don't tell†, passed in 1993, prevents gay men and lesbians from revealing their sexual orientation, and prevents the military from asking about it.This discuss policy has been in effect for over 15 years, and it's been suppor ted by our military at all levels. However, this law of the â€Å"don't ask, don't tell† policy is unconstitutional because the main purpose of the First Amendment is freedom of speech, if lesbians and gay men are not allowed to have this right in the military; then the military and congress who approved this law are both racist. This is an example of racist speech and our government is acting as if it were a private institution and not part of a government that is owned by the people.President Barack Obama wants to put an end to the anti-gay policy because it clearly sends a message of discrimination regarding the right to freedom of speech. It is a battle between our right to freedom of speech and the Military right to pass a law only because it can. Although these incidents seem quite manageable they can easily become a much bigger problem. For instance what if someone decides to burn the offensive flag at Harvard down, we now have crossed the freedom of speech line and ha ve committed an illegal act.Can you imagine what would happen in our public schools if we tried to enforce â€Å"don't ask, don't tell†. Speech can cross over to action which causes racial tension but is also considered a crime. If you minimize racist speech you put a spotlight on racism only making the situation worse igniting the flames that started the problem in the first place. Book says â€Å"it would be better to ignore† however ignoring the problem is a Band-Aid not a solution. In order to come to a universal agreement that will end racism, means making it a priority to our first amendment.Book says â€Å"The fact that speech is protected by the tuition from Harvard the students who felt offended by the flag that symbolized slavery through their eyes, would strongly disagree with Book protesting that it is our right. However our leaders in congress seem to strongly agree, by their actions of standing by â€Å"Don't ask Don't Tell†, they must believe gay men and lesbians do not have the right to voice talk or congregate with others of their persuasion while in the service of our government about their sexual preference. As long as there is freedom of speech, it is considered wrong to tell someone what they can or can't say.

Sleep Deprivation in Teens - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 596 Downloads: 9 Date added: 2019/07/29 Category Health Essay Level High school Tags: Sleep Deprivation Essay Did you like this example? You might be wondering what is sleep deprivation is. Sleep deprivation is basically not getting Enough sleep. So sleep deprivation is not a big problem for me, but for other people, it is a big problem. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Sleep Deprivation in Teens" essay for you Create order Experts are calling it a National Health Crisis. So if experts are calling it National Health crisis, why are we not doing something about it? If we did something about it wouldnt it solve most of the problems in the school system? Am I the only one who thinks that. It also as a greater increase in anxiety in 9 out of 12 people. So if anxiety makes people panic, right? So if getting more sleep would make people panic less, which in turn would make it so teens would do better on a test. Which bring us to our next topic. America’s grades racking in the world. Firstly, without any sleep, you are at higher risk of getting many health problems. Such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. Sleep is important for overall health, and inadequate sleep is associated with numerous health problems. And is some rare cases death. How cannot getting effect sleep can cause death. Also can cause Hormonal imbalances, illnesses, hallucination, disorientation, moodiness. Who could have thought you not getting enough sleep could do all this. Sleep has a direct correlation with America’s grades racking in the world. Maybe that is why were so low in the ranking. If students like me could more sleep maybe we could do better on tests and other things. This is very Apparent and college students. People think its all your phones falt, but its also because of school. Staying up so we study for tests, is another reason for sleep deprivation. I mathematics Americas lowest Average out of all of Americas averages. The middle average of America is science. and the highest average in America is reading. Maybe if we gay kids must sleep, maybe more kids to get into Ivy League colleges like brown Harvard or Yale. So most teens must head to school before theyve gotten the 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). So if research and Common sense tell you that sleep helps the grades why dont professionals and experts do something about it. I dont know why They dont do something about it they just dont. In 1965, 17-year-old high school student, Randy Garder stayed awake for 264 hours. That’s 11 days to see how he’d cope without sleep. On the of his test, his eyes stopped focusing. Next, he lost the ability to identify objects by touch. By day three, Gardner was moody and uncoordinated. At the end of the test, he was struggling to concentrate, had problems with his short-term memory, became paranoid, and started hallucinating. Although Gardner recovered without long-term psychological or physical damage, for other losing shuteye can result in hormonal imbalance, illness, in extreme cases, death. We’re only beginning to understand why we sleep, to begin with, but we do know it’s essential. Adults need seven to eight hours of sleep a night, and adolescents need about ten. We grow sleepy due to signals from our body telling our brain we are tired, and signals from the environment telling us it’s dark outside. The rise in sleep-inducing chemicals, like adenosine and melatonin, send us into a flight doze that grows deeper, making our breathing and heart rate slow down and our muscles relax. This non-REM sleep is when DNA repaired and our bodies replenish themselves for the day ahead.
